Formation of Dnyanakendra (Knowledge Centre)

After the formation of the Temple's Trust, one of the most significant developments carried out by the Trust was the formation of a Library which could nurture the idea of what being truly religious entails. With an endeavor to spread the ancient wisdom available in our sacred texts and to make the large collection of books available to the citizens of the city of Thane, the Trustees, started the Library known as Dnyankendra on the auspicious day of Shri Ramkrishna Jayanti on 20th February 1977, i.e. "Phalgun Shudh 2 Shake 1898" as per the Hindu calendar .

Our Library Service

The books are provided for reading in the library premises free of cost.

The Dnyankendra Library is open from Tuesday to Saturday in the evening between 5.30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. and on Sunday between 10 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. in the morning.

For taking the books home, a nominal annual fee of Rs.25/- and a deposit of Rs. 200/- is taken from the members.

On every Sunday in the month of Shravan, the Dnyankendra organizes public speeches/lectures on great personalities like Saints, Yogis, etc. Since the last 19 years the Dnyankendra has organized an annual conference on the subject "Religion and Philosophy".

Programs organized by the Dnyankendra

Every year "Granth Samruddhi Yojana" is organised in order to increase the collection of good books in the library as well to increase public contribution for the same. An appeal is made to all the readers that on account of Gurupournima, they should try to offer to the library, at least one book, which they have found to have positively influenced their lives, during the previous year, thus following the principle "Grantha hech Guru" (Books can be our teachers).

An exhibition is organized of all the books thus received on the auspicious day of Gurupournima. This program receives a very good response from all the readers who visit the library.

Current Collection & Resources

At present the said Library houses about 8378 books. The books are available in the following languages namely viz: Sanskrit, Marathi, Hindi, Gujarati and English. The Dnyankendra Library has one of the best collections of books related to religion and religious philosophies.
